Proofreading
Genres: All genres welcome
Focus on: typographical errors, spelling, grammar, internal language consistency, detail confirmation, as well as spacing and paragraph issues.
Includes: a Word document with Track Changes on and a style sheet (if one is not provided).
Rate: $0.005/word and up, depending on the state of the manuscript.
Copyediting
Genres: All genres welcome
Focus on: everything that proofreading includes and more, such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, verb tense, dialogue formatting, capitalization, redundancy and unintentional repetition, flow, inconsistencies, wordiness, awkward or confusing language, as well as some fact checking, where applicable. (Americanization of language can also be included, if desired.)
Includes: a Word document with Track Changes on, a style sheet, and one Revision Check (after the copyedit, going over your revisions in your Word document).
Rate: $0.008/word and up, depending on the state of the manuscript.
Line Editing
Genres: Commercial fiction genres welcome; no non-fiction, poetry, or literary fiction, please
Focus on: everything that copyediting includes and more, such as tightening prose, optimizing point of view, improving clarity, adding transitions or adjusting flow where needed, fixing mismatched tone, correcting pacing, showing v. telling, and anything else confusing, awkward, or ineffective that can be improved.
Includes: a Word document with Track Changes on, a style sheet, and one Revision Check (after the line edit, going over your revisions in your Word document).
Rate: $0.01/word and up, depending on the state of the manuscript.
Audiobook Proofing
Genres: All genres welcome
Focus on: sound errors, unusual noises (papers shuffling, pops, swallows, etc.), accuracy to the text, and pronunciation.
Includes: a spreadsheet listing timestamps and issues.
Rate: $13/hour. Generally, the number of hours it takes will only be an hour or so more than your audiobook’s length, but for audiobooks with more errors than average, this can be a couple additional hours or more (I can keep you updated as I go).
Content Editing
Genres: Fantasy and Science Fiction only. Age levels: trade/adult, young adult, and middle grade welcome.
Focus on: big-picture issues. I’ll identify weaknesses in plot, character, world building, structure, engagement, and more, but you tell me what your main concerns are, and I’ll prioritize those while giving you my feedback on any other big-picture problems. (Note: This does NOT include proofreading, copyediting, or line editing.)
Specialties: Analysis of systems, such as magic systems, technology, and game mechanics (LitRPG and GameLit). I’m open to not only trade/adult fiction, but also young adult and middle grade, where my teaching background is an additional asset.
Includes: a Word document with comments & Track Changes on, and a reasonable amount of email communication with an optional one-hour Skype/Hangouts/Zoom/phone call.
Rate: $0.009/word, with additional voice/video consulting available at $20/hour.
Consulting
Genres: Fantasy and Science Fiction only, trade/adult, young adult, and middle grade welcome.
Focus on: system development for your fantasy or science-fiction story. If you need advice on developing your magic system, fantasy/SF world, technology, or game mechanics (LitRPG and GameLit), I’m here to help. Get it right before you write, and save yourself the time and drafts.
Includes: Voice or video call, and/or email communication.
Rate: $20/hour.
